In an effort to increase cohesion and cooperation in the community, local and County Police have set aside times to meet with local residents in an effort to “build relationships and trust between the officers and the people they save,” according to police officials.

The “Coffee with a Cop” event will be held beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at McDonald's on Route 6 in the Cortlandt Town Center. It is expected to conclude around noon.

“Police officers most often meet the public while responding to calls or handing stressful incidents,” Westchester County Police Commissioner Thomas Gleason stated. “We look forward to simply sharing a cup of coffee and some conversation with the people of Cortlandt.”

Gleason said the event was a great opportunity for residents to discuss community issues and concerns or find out more about the work police officers do.

“We are grateful to the folks at McDonald’s for opening their doors to us and hosting this community event,” he added.

“Coffee with A Cop” was first started by a police department in California, but has since spread nationwide, and has been embraced by multiple local municipalities in Westchester.

“The Coffee with a Cop" events are designed to let citizens come into a local restaurant or coffee shop, sit down with an officer and talk about anything,” Hawthorne Police Sgt. Chris Cognac stated. “Coffee with a Cop has no mantra of no agenda and no speeches - keep it simple, keep it transparent, and keep it real.”
